Traynors Lagoon Hall (former Mechanics Institute), 669 Traynors Lagoon Road, TRAYNORS LAGOON - Physical Description 1
The Traynors Lagoon Mechanics Institute Hall, 669 Traynors Lagoon Road, Traynors Lagoon, is set in an open landscape comprising open grassed areas and perimeter trees and shrubs. There is an introduced brick toilet structure at the side towards the rear, while at the front is a flag pole and War Memorial (see TL/003 for further details).
The symmetrical, rudimentary Federation styled hall is characterised by a gable roof form that projects towards the road, together with rear hipped roof forms that project at the sides. The rear skillion supper room represents a later addition. These roof forms are clad in galvanised corrugated steel. Six early round galvanised steel ventilators adorn the roofline. Broad overhangs are features of the eaves.
Other early features of the design include the decorative timber wall cladding simulating ashlar on the front wall, horizontal timber weatherboard wall cladding for the remainder of the building and the timber framed double hung windows. The vertically boarded timber doors at the front and sides are also early, as is the timberwork in the flying gable end, timber bargeboards, timberwork simulating shingling in the gable end and the rectangular sign on the front gable that reads "Traynors Lagoon Mechanics Institute".
