Statement of Significance
Site ofthe first gold discovery in the Shire and from 1861-71 source of most ofthe winnable gold in the Shire. Site also of the Darley quarry from 1858, whose freeston e was considered for use in Parliament House and the Treasury in Melbourne.
The site has scientific significance for its archaeological research potential.
