C.J. DENNY'S WESTERN WOOL WAREHOUSE SITE - History
The site is the possible location of the C.J. Denny's Western Wool Warehouse (1854). The site was purchased by George Hague in 1877. It was redeveloped in 1884 with the addition of a building off Smythe Street. A second brick building was added in stages in the 1930s. This building was demolished in the 1980s.C.J. Site was a small woolstore, CJ Denny's Western Wool Warehouse in 1854. Redeveloped in 1884. In the 1930s another brick building was added. This building was demolished in the 1980s. The building on the corner of Western Beach Road and Brougham Street (which is intact but vacant and deteriorating) is on the Heritage Overlay HO 339.

Site may produce depoists which will contribute to our understanding of the woolstore and its activities in the mid to late 19th century

Site has the potential to contain subsurface features and deposits relating to the former woolstore or other buildings from the 1880s and 1930s.

C.J. DENNY'S WESTERN WOOL WAREHOUSE SITE - Heritage Inventory Description
Large bitumen public carpark, bound by Western Beach Road, Gheringhap Street, Cavendish Street and Deakin University Waterfront Campus. A brick remnant wall with sawn wooden beaves is visible, potentially relating to the former woolstore.
