FROUDS SAWMILL - History
THE MILL WAS ESTABLISHED BY WILLIAM HENRY FROUD AND THIS SONS ALFRED AND JAMES IN THE LATE 1920S TO EXPLOIT THE YELLOW STRINGYBARK TIMBER OF THE MULLUNGDUNG FOREST. THE KAURI TIMBER COMPANY TOOK OVER THE MILL IN 9146 WHICH CONTINUED TO OPERATE UNTIL MID-1948.FROUDS SAWMILL - Interpretation of Site
Foundation timbers relate to skids in the log yard, foundations for the breaking-down track, the rip bench and stacking skids. Chimney foundations and scattered domestic debris gives some indication of the size of the mill community.
