Inverleigh Boer War Obelisk - Veterans Description for Public
The Inverleigh Memorial Obelisk, on Hamilton Highway, was erected to commemorate the Boer War. The memorial comprises of a small granite obelisk raised on a mound of stones. The marble plaque attached to the memorial records the following inscription:
"Erected by the Inhabitants
In Memory of Serjt Major Albert Houchton
Victorian 5th Contingent
Killed in Action at Utrecht
South Africa 16th October 1901
He Did His Duty as a Soldier
And as a Man."
