Statement of Significance
THE KUNAT SCHOOL SITE REPRESENTS SCHOOLING IN THE ISOLATED AREAS OF THE MALLEE DURING THE PERIOD 18902-1950S WHEN THIS AREA WAS MORE CLOSELY SETTLED THAN TODAY.

KUNAT STATE SCHOOL NO.3294 - History
THE SCHOOL OPENED AS KOOEM EAST SCHOOL SS3294 IN 1896. IT CLOSED BRIEFLY DUE TO DROUGHT IN 1903 AND RE-OPENED IN 1904. IN 1915 THE SCHOOL NAME WAS CHANGED TO KUNAT. THE SCHOOL CLOSED IN 1934 AND RE-OPENED AGAIN IN 1951, THEN CLOSED IN 1954. THE KUNAT HALL WAS USED FOR A SCHOOL. AROUND 1956, THE JUNAT HALL WAS SOLD AND MOVED TO LAKE BOGA. IN 1982 IT WAS SOLD FOR DEMOLITION.KUNAT STATE SCHOOL NO.3294 - Interpretation of Site
There are no visible remains of the foundations of the school, however there is a number of historic artefacts scattered around the trees and in the paddock. As the school was a timber building, there may not be any sub-surface foundations.

KUNAT STATE SCHOOL NO.3294 - Heritage Inventory Description
The site is marked by a sign that reads "Kunat" in front of a sugar-gum that was planted. There is a small scatter of historical artefacts around the trees and an old gate.
There are a number of planted sugar gum trees; a sign marking the former school site. There are no visible structural remains, however there is a scatter of historical artefacts between the trees and in the ploughed field. Artefacts include ceramic and bottle glass, two pieces of plywood, and tins.
