St. Peter's Anglican Church War Memorial - Veterans Description for Public
Outside St. Peter's Church, on Gisborne and Albert Streets, is a crucifix monument dedicated to the First World War. The memorial comprises of a bronze crucified Christ mounted on a sandstone platform with the inscription Invictus Pax 1914 - 1918. On the back of the monument the inscription reads, "This wayside crucifix was unveiled on 16 March 1924 by the Governor General and blessed by the Anglican Archbishop of Melbourne. It is a war memorial to honour, in the first instance, the 366 young men and women who went out from this city Anglican Church St. Peter, to serve in the Great War. Through generations it has remained a lovingly tended place of remembrance, devotion and prayer. INVICTUS PAX 'Peace to the unconquered.' 1914-1918."
