Mooroopna War Memorial Rotunda - Veterans Description for Public
The Mooroopna War Memorial, inside the gardens on McLennan Street, was erected on 25th April 1928 in memory of the First World War. The Mooroopna community contributed £1,100 to erect the rotunda which lists 145 men and 21 nurses, all of whom trained at the Mooroopna Hospital. The Classical rotunda is a reinforced concrete construction witha domed roof. It features anoctagonal plan supported by plain Ionic columns on square bases. The octagonal frieze contains moulded panels with the pressed cement lettering 'France', 'Belgium', 'Palestine' and 'Gallipoli' alternating with blank panels, all of which are moulded. The structure is raised on an octagonal concrete base which is stepped on all sides. The plinth is surrounded on three sides by a non-original galvanised steel rack for floral wreaths.
