Numurkah War Memorial - Veterans Description for Public
The Numurkah War Memorial, on Saxton and Melville Streets, is an elaborate monument comprising of two marble figures: a statue of Victory and a First World War Digger. The Digger statue stands head bowed, holding a bronze rifle in the 'arms reversed' position, in front of a representation of a rock. The monument was unveiled on 16th November 1929, in memory of the First World War with the inscription "Deep graved in every British Heart, O never let their names depart." Later, names were added to the monument for the Second World War, Vietnam War and for the servicewomen of the Second World War. Altogether the monument lists 780 names of those who served.
