Tynong War Memorial Flagstaff - Veterans Description for Public
The Tynong War Memorial Flagstaff, on Railway Avenue, was unveiled on Remembrance Day 2005. The memorial is dedicated to the Tynong men and women who served Australia in the Boer War, First World War, Second World War, Korea, Malaya, Borneo and Vietnam. There is also a plaque acknowledging the special contribution of the Tynong community to Melbourne's Shrine of Remembrance. It was local amateur geologist, Mrs. Mary Ann Ryan, who suggested to the National War Memorial Committee that granite from the the original Tynong Quarry be used in the construction of the shrine.
