Memorial Window Description & History
Stained Glass Window at Oakleigh Holy Trinity Anglican Church - Memorial Window Description & History
This memorial was ordered by Mrs. Trenwith (probably his widow, Marjorie), in November 1947 and installed early in the following year. The design was re-worked from an earlier cartoon made in 1946 for the Clayton Independent [now Uniting] Church, Norwood, South Australia, which was among the first windows to be made after restrictions on the industry were lifted in the post-War years.
Reginald George Trenwith, born on 8 May 1910, trained as an electrical engineer and from about 1930 to 1940 he served with the militia until he joined the regular army. Appointed Captain 1 May 1940 and then Major in the following year, he served with the 2/12 Field Regiment in Egypt where his distinguished service was mentioned in despatches and gazetted 30 June 1942. He died of wounds on 1 November 1942 and was buried in the El Alamein War Cemetery
