STATE SCHOOL NO. 1418 (FORMER) - Physical Description 1
The former North Byaduk State School No. 1418 is located on land overlooking Lyne Creek, on Knights Road, about 400 metres from the corner of the Hamilton-Port Fairy Road. It consists of a one roomed bluestone school house with an entrance porch, and a detached corrugated iron toilet block 20 metres from the main building.
The bluestone of the walls is rockfaced and finely dressed, suggesting a high level of masonry skills were involved in its construction. The tall windows in the side and front walls of the school admit an abundance of natural light. The roof has been replaced recently with Colourbond sheeting. The chimney on the west side of the building has been extended with brick, and with a recent ventilation device.
The interior of the building retains blackboards and storage cupboards from the period of use as a school. The internal bluestone walls have no plaster or render, suggesting that they may have been stripped back in recent years. The fireplace has been filled in to accommodate a modern space heater.
No evidence of the former teachers residence is visible on the land.
The former school has been used as the local public hall since it ceased to operate as an education facility.STATE SCHOOL NO. 1418 (FORMER) - Historical Australian Themes
