Statement of Significance
Local Significance
National Estate Register:
The former Meredith Shire Hall is a characteristic work of architect Alexander Davidson in the favoured
Victorian eclectic mode. The Shire of Meredith united with the Shire of Bannockburn in 1915 and the municipal
offices were transferred to Bannockburn. The facade is a distinctive combination of basalt and Waurn Ponds
limestone in a relatively restrained and disciplined axial composition. The structure has interesting associations
with local government in the Meredith district.
(The Commission is in the process of developing and/or upgrading official statements for places listed prior to
1991. The above data was mainly provided by the nominator and has not yet been revised by the Commission.
