How is it significant?
The Brickworks Housing Precinct is of local historical and architectural significance to the City of Moreland.
Why is it significant?
The Brickworks Housing Precinct is of local historical significance as a reflection of the development of the highly important brick industry in Brunswick and of the influence of the Hoffman Brickworks and its associated land investment company in the shaping of Brunswick.
The Brickworks Housing Precinct is of local architectural significance for a number of individually important places, including the Brunswick Technical School and the company cottages in Munro Street. The north side of Munro Street contains mostly double-fronted Victorian and Edwardian timber cottages, whilst on the south side most of the single-storey detached cottages are of the Edwardian period. A near intact Edwardian shop is located at 62 Munro Street. Number 16 Barry Street is a brick house occupied for a short period by John Curtain and his parents when they lived in Brunswick in the first decade of the 20th century.
Non-Contributory properties include:

The Brickworks and Barry Street Precinct sits to the south of the Hoffman's brickworks in Dawson Street, and west of the former Brunswick Technical School. It is a predominantly residential area, and most of the housing has historical associations with the brickworks.
Dawson Street comprises small houses, predominantly Edwardian, and mostly brick. There is no street planting
The north side of Munro Street contains mostly double-fronted Victorian and Edwardian timber cottages, whilst on the south side most of the single-storey detached cottages are Edwardian. An substantially intact Edwardian shop stands at No. 62. The east end of the street contains a few post-war dwellings and a greater number of attached brick cottages. Street plantings include small Melaleuca, and original street elements retained include bluestone kerbs and guttering at the western end of the street.
Collier Street east of Barry Street contains a range of semi-detached and attached Victorian and Edwardian cottages, the majority constructed in brick, whilst the housing stock at the west end of the street dates primarily from the Edwardian and inter-War periods. Street planting includes small Eucalyptus, Melaleuca and other natives, and original street elements retained include bluestone kerbs and gutters.
Barry Street comprises largely single-fronted Victorian and Edwardian cottages, of which a particularly notable example is Beatrice, at No. ***.
