The Willowbank Road Precinct, comprises houses at 1-51 May Street, 2-28 Willowbank Road and 1-33 Willowbank Road, traditional hard-landscape elements of bluestone curbing and guttering, asphalt footpaths and bluestone laneway, and mature ash trees on the northern side of Willowbank Road.
How is it significant?
The Willowbank Road Precinct is of local landscape and architectural significance to the City of Moreland.
Why is it significant?
The Willowbank Road Precinct is of local landscape significance as a rare instance in Brunswick of a landscape characterized by a curved street layout, retention of traditional hard landscape elements in the street, a group of large mature ash street trees and a connection to the leafy setting of Merri Creek. A bluestone lane runs between May Street and Willowbank Road.
The Willowbank Road Precinct is of local architectural significance as an example of a streetscape of late Victorian and Edwardian housing which is consistent in scale while displaying a range of distinctive architectural elements including single-storey Victorian and Edwardian housing in an unusually leafy setting close to the Merri Creek. The south side of Willowbank Road comprises brick and timber attached houses, on the north is a row of Inter-War Bungalows. There is a number of late Victorian detached houses in May Street, with a group of asymmetrical Edwardian timber houses.
Non-Contributory properties include:
May Street: 17 and 31.
Willowbank Road: 9, 28 and 31.-
