Street Trees - Physical Description 1
A notable row of trees in a residential street.
Remnant Fabric (Man Made):None noted.
Remnant Fabric (Vegetation):A number of mature street tree plantings are located on the east side of the street. Canary Island Date Palms (Phoenix canariensis) are the most conspicuous of the plantings, which are interplanted with Sweet Pittosporum (Pittosporum undulatum). At the northern end of the street are a number of mature Plane Trees (Platanus x acerifolius) which have been lopped at various times, but have regained some of their natural form. A mature False Cypress (Chamaecyparis sp) also makes a notable planting. Recently introduced native material is located at the south end of the street, jarring with the heritage character of the mature plantings.
Potential Threats: Further introduction of inappropriate native material, or failure to replace senescent specimens with the same species would reduce the heritage character of the place. Any works in the root zones of these trees would impact on their health and may reduce their long-term amenity.Heritage Study and Grading
