Statement of Significance
A cottage of rural Gothic style situated in Essendon's and the region's foremost park, is historically and architecturally significant at State level because it was the residence of Queen's Park designer and first curator John Oliver, and because it is a rare surviving example of a curator's cottage in a large public garden. Its architectural significance lies in it being an outstandingly crafted and decorated example of a style associated with the Picturesque landscape movement, and as the only known example of a curator's cottage with shingled roof and dormers.
