MALAKOFF ALLUVIALS - Heritage Inventory Description
Treatment plant foundations - 30ft square concrete floor which contains four concrete mounting beds and a 28ft long pit. The largest of the mounting beds measures 16ft x 9ft, stands 1ft high and has 11/2 bolts. On the north-west corner of the slab is a 8ft diameter concrete vat. There is also a 6ft diameter brick vat on the north-east corner. Slum disposal - An underground culvert runs east from the brick vat and connects to a by-pass channel coming from a large breached embankment. The by-pass channel runs north for approximately 200 metres to a large intact slum pond. Sluice hole - Large sluice hole now full of water. Shallow sinkings and second (north) sluice hole - There is another sluice hole approximately 400 metres to the north of the treatment site. This hole is silted and covered by reeds. Downstream from the silted hole is a network of 3 shallow slum ponds. Between the two sluice holes is a band of well defined shallow sinkings./n
