The Avenue of Honour was established in August 1918 as a memorial to local men who had fought in World War I. The 281 , Dutch Elms (Ulmus x hollandica) were planted along the Old Western Highway, beginning at Pearce Street. Planting also includes Ulmus glabra. Name plates of individual servicemen areattached to each tree.
