What is significant?
"Russell Court", constructed c.1935, at 36-38 Bair Street, Leongatha.
Why is it significant?
"Russell Court" at 36-38 Bair Street, Leongatha is of local historic and aesthetic interest to the town of Leongatha.
Historically, it is one of a group of buildings that demonstrate the important commercial development of that occurred in Leongatha during the interwar years. It is important as one of the first arcade-style commercial developments in Leongatha, and probably the Shire. (Criteria A & D)
Aesthetically, it is a good and substantially intact example of an interwar shop that retains its original parapet, shopfront, awning and interiors and contributes to the streetscape of Bair Street. (Criterion E)

Russell Court is a double fronted inter war shop complex, which includes an arcade from Bair Street to .. Street at the rear. It is remarkably intact and includes original shopfronts and interiors.
