HOUSE (AERO VIEW) - Physical Description 1
The house at 13A Steele Street, Leongatha is a superior example of a late Victorian symmetrical timber villa with a M-hip roof and a projecting bay on the south side. The return verandah has a convex profile and is supported on timber posts with cast iron brackets. The central front door has sidelights and highlights and is flanked by tripartite windows. Of note are the corbelled brick chimneys, which incorporate a 'cross' pattern - reputedly, thisis a deliberatereference to the profession of the first owner, who was a doctor.
The house is in excellent condition and has been sympathetically restored and extended at the rear. Alterations include the replacement of the windows in the south projecting bay. Otherwise the house has a relatively high degree of external integrity.
The house is set on a large allotment at the rear of post-war houses that face Steele Street.
