HENRY CARNELL HOUSE SITE - History
Heritage Inventory History of Site: This site is located on Allotment 16B of Section 5, Parish of Metcalfe. It was first purchased by Henry Carnell on 6/6/1872. Henry was a local Sunday school teacher and the house was used for Sunday night gatherings by the local community (pers. com., Neil Girvan). The house has been moved to Metcalfe.
HENRY CARNELL HOUSE SITE - Interpretation of Site
Heritage Inventory Interpretation: The site consists of extensive homestead ruins with associated plantings and fence/gate posts. The drainage channels and dam embankments can be seen along the river channel to the north. Some of the bricks scattered around the site have a white lime/ plaster wash on at least one face. The verandah lace visible on site probably dates from circa 1880

HENRY CARNELL HOUSE SITE - Heritage Inventory Description
Extensive but deteriorated homestead ruins and remnant garden. There are stone (including bluestone) and brick pieces in situ and scattered around the surface. At least one chimney base can be seen. There are visible artefacts on site, including iron verandah lace, brick, ceramics a wooden wheel from a cart.
Heritage Inventory Significance: Moderate archaeological and historical significance. The house structure has been removed, but there are stratified building remains and artefacts at this site.

Heritage Inventory Site Features: - stone footings including hearths/chimney bases. - assorted fruit trees are planted in alignment east of the homestead site. - fence/ gate posts and perhaps verandah posts on site. - dam embankments and drainage direction channels have been constructed along the river course.
