LITTLE RIVER/PRINCES FWY SURFACE ARTEFACT SCATTER - History
Heritage Inventory History of Site: Not known
LITTLE RIVER/PRINCES FWY SURFACE ARTEFACT SCATTER - Interpretation of Site
Heritage Inventory Interpretation: The site is extremely fragmented and eroded and difficult to interpret from surface features. The bluestone and cement ford is possibly the remains of a ford present as ariver crossing before the construction of the freeway, the ceramics and bottle glass appear to be derived frm a deposit destroyed by construction of a vehicle track, the cobbled surface exposed at a depth of 0.20cm maybe the remains of a road. Probably not a contact site - artefacts from an Aboriginal campsite appear to be mixed and distributed with other materials.
Heritage Inventory Description
LITTLE RIVER/PRINCES FWY SURFACE ARTEFACT SCATTER - Heritage Inventory Description
Surface scatter of transfer printed ceramics and nineteenth century bottle glass and structural features - partly destroyed ford, concrete feature, base of timber fencepost and sub-surface exposure of basalt cobbling. The latter is possibly part of an older road surface or footing. Aboriginal stone artefacts present.
Heritage Inventory Significance: Site lacks integrity and is probably of low scientific/local historical significance but further work is required to evaluate the site properly.
