This place is included on the Victorian Heritage Inventory, for its potential to contain historical archaeological remains associated with the settlement and growth of early Melbourne. Under the terms of the Heritage Act 2017 there is protection for all historical archaeology sites and objects in the state.

131-135 BOURKE STREET - Heritage Inventory Description
Allotment 15, Block 10, 4th land sale 14 Feb 1839. Subdivision established at that time. First substantial building on site the Haymarket theatre built by George Coppin 1862. Shown 1866 map. Later renamed the Duke of Edinburgh, burnt down 1871. Arcade constructed on site 1872. Converted into furniture warehouse 1926. 1888 map - Eastern Arcade, shops & hotel.
