MERNDA 10, MASONS LANE HOMESTEAD - History
Heritage Inventory History of Site: According to Parish of Yan Yean map 1878, this land was owned by Thomas Walker who also owned bluestone quarries in Mason's Lane. This house and outbuildings may date from later purchase, or leasee's construction.
Late 19th century homestead and farm complex. occupied until c.1980.

MERNDA 10, MASONS LANE HOMESTEAD - Heritage Inventory Description
Abandoned timber homestead on Mason's Lane with four rooms and a verandah. The external fabric is missing, but the internal fabric is visible. There are two fireplaces. The walls and ceilings good examples of beading between planks. Lino is visible in one room. Corrugated iron roof at front. There are split timber shingles at back under the corrugated iron. Bricks have been used to pave outside the cottage. A rendered brick well was uncovered to the west of the house. The garden is still producing roses. The external red brick structure has brick floors, air vents, and internal walls have wooden shelves (dairy or butter room). There is also a lean-to shed, possibly for horses.
Heritage Inventory Significance: Medium. Despite vandalism, remains lovely example of early building techniques and a dairy.
