Heritage Inventory History of Site: This is the grave of a Chinese prospector, dating to the 1850s - 60s. The site was a tourist attraction during the 1920s and 30s, when there was cairn and a plaque to mark the grave.
TOOLANGI CHINESE BURIAL - Heritage Inventory Description
Site of the burial of a Chinese gold prospector. Was once a stone cairn, complete with plaque, but all that remains are two mounds covered in soil, leaf litter, plants and saplings. Two tree fern stumps sit on top of the mounds and two carved tree fern stumps sit north of the site.
Heritage Inventory Significance: Highly significant as few (if any) similar types of burial are found in the state.
