Statement of Significance
Swedes Cut Take-Off Channel, Swedes CreekRoad, Glenorchy, is significant as an early attempt to supply water to the northern areas of the state and as an early part of the Wimmera Mallee Domestic and Stock Supply system which grew to become one of the largest of its kind in the world. The channel was made obsolete by the introduction of the channel system in 1914 and is now dry except in times of flood.
Swedes Cut Take-Off Channel, Swedes CreekRoad, Glenorchy, is historically and scientifically significant at a LOCAL level. It is associated with the Wimmera-Mallee stock and domestic water supply system which grew to become one of the largest of its kind in the world.

Swedes Cut, Take-off Channel, Swedes Creek Road, GLENORCHY - Physical Description 1
Swedes Cut Off-take channel, is a wide shallow depression which runs from Swedes CreekRoad in a straight line north north east to Swedes Creek. Just south of the intersection with the Glenorchy Campbells bridge road is the remains of an early weir on the Wimmera River near a ford. The channel was dug to divert water from the Wimmera River to Swedes Creek to take water to the northern areas around Donald. The shallow depression is now marked by self sown native trees.
