BIG AND LITTLE PENINSULA TUNNELS - History
Heritage Inventory History of Site: Both tunnels have been attributed to the Chinese miners of the Upper Yarra gold rushes, dating from about the 1870s.BIG AND LITTLE PENINSULA TUNNELS - Interpretation of Site
Tunnels have been constructed from local stone over two peninsulas. Area was mined by gold miners during 19th century rush, and now popilat picnic and swimming spots.
BIG AND LITTLE PENINSULA TUNNELS - Historical Significance
The site relates to the gold mining era in the region (mid 180s), specifically to Chinese gold miners. The site has had long use asd picnic and swimming grounds for the local community and tourists.
BIG AND LITTLE PENINSULA TUNNELS - Archaeological Significance
The area has been used consistantly since the mid 19th century and there is low potential for archaeological desposits to exist relating to Chinese gold miners and subsequent picnices from the late 1800s to present.

BIG AND LITTLE PENINSULA TUNNELS - Heritage Inventory Description
Big Peninsula Tunnel is of square section about 2 metres high and wide, and approximately 25 metres long. The outlet is now a popular swimming spot. Little Peninsula tunnel is of similar dimensions and is a favoured picnic spot.
