Site used for mining for an unknown period, but possibly from 1870. Evidence suggests some domestic activities also occurred on site with the presence of a hut. Area is now a water catchment area with restricted access.
SOVEREIGN MINE, REEFTON SPUR - Archaeological Significance
Low to med significance. Site comprises a number of features, some of which (such as the cyanide slurry) are possibly rare in the region and state. The protection of the area now as a water catchment provides potential for these features to be relatively intact.

Several shafts, a hut, cyanide slurry tanks and other relics remain at the site. The exact tunnel locations are unconfirmed. A large aqueduct runs to the mine from Cumberland Creek.
