J & J FEIGLIN'S MILL SITE NO.1 - History
Heritage Inventory History of Site: Feiglins constructed a mill and extensive seasoning kilns next to the Archeron River. The family were primarily orchardists who wanted to cut and season shooks for fruit cases. The No 1 mill was completed in 1934, after being moved from Powelltown. A 2500 yard long incline, rising 1450 feet, was built to obtain timber from the ridge to the east of the mill. Eventually a 'spot ' mill was installed at the top of this incline. No 1 mill was burnt down in 1937, and again in 1939 and rebuilt both times. The mill was burnt again in 1955 and was not rebuilt, the area being cut out.Heritage Inventory Description
