BOULDER RANGE 1 (BR-1) - TRENCHES - History
Heritage Inventory History of Site: N/A
BOULDER RANGE 1 (BR-1) - TRENCHES - Interpretation of Site
Heritage Inventory Interpretation: These features are similar to holes formed by uprooted trees, however the regularity of their shape suggests a cultural origin. There are no artefacts or structural features associated with the site that can indicate function; given the history of military use of this area , particularly for commando training, it seems most likely that the site could be associated with the latter. Possibly the trenches were dug as overnight bivouacs on the steep hillslopes.
