RED JACKET POST OFFICE - History
Heritage Inventory History of Site: The rush for gold in the alluvial fields of the Jordan River began in 1861. Red jacket was a town that grew from this rush. It became a substantial community, having its own school from 1871 to 1899. All that remains is the Post Office chimney and the cemetery. Most of the other building were destroyed in the 1939 bushfires.Heritage Inventory Description
RED JACKET POST OFFICE - Heritage Inventory Description
Stone chimney, 2 x 1 m at base, standing 3 m high. Sole above ground evidence for settlement. The chimney is situated on a flat open area but blackberries have overgrown the site.
