TEN-MILE ALLUVIAL DIGGINGS - Heritage Inventory Description
A series of large trenches at right angles to the river into an old bed of the Goulburn River. At the end of some trenches are small tunnels of 2 to 10 m in length. At one point, the entire bank of the Goulburn, extending out to 75 m from the river, has been excavated to bedrock. Piles of rocks have been left behind. The walls of the excavations are from 6 to 10 m in height. There are a number of tunnels into the excavation face. (Steenhuis, p. 48)
