House, Newall Street, MARNOO - Physical Description 1
The house, 6 Newall Street, Marnoo, is set on a sizeable allotment. It has a front setback comprising an open grassed area with a perimeter flower beds, with a low hedge forming the front boundary. There is one wide side setback with a gravelled driveway that leads to an early rear gabled timber shed.
The symmetrical, single storey, horizontal timber weatherboard, rudimentary Victorian styled house is characterised by a gable roof form that traverses the site, together with a skillion verandah that projects towards the street frontage. These roof forms are clad in dark green painted galvanised corrugated iron. At the rear is a gabled wing with similar roof cladding. An early (but introduced) painted brick chimney with a soldier course capping adorns one side and the roofline of the house. The air conditioning unit that is prominently positioned near the ridge line is a recently introduced item.
The symmetrical composition is especially identified by the central early timber framed doorway with flanking early timber framed double hung windows.
A feature of the design is the front verandah. It appears to be supported by more recent turned timber columns with decorative timber brackets.
