House, 66 Newall Street, MARNOO - Physical Description 1
The house, 66 Newall Street, Marnoo, has visual connections with other predominantly single storey, horizontal weatherboard residential buildings with pitched galvanised corrugated iron roofs. This building is generally in accord with the form, construction and setbacks of the significant places visually connected to it. It is set on averaged sized allotment for the area with a sizeable front setback and narrow side setbacks. There is a rudimentary front garden that consists of a grassed area, perimeter garden beads and some exotic trees and shrubs. The Edwardian style of the house suggests that it was constructed in the early 20th century.
The asymmetrical, single storey, double fronted horizontal weatherboard, Late Edwardian styled house is characterised by a recessed steeply pitched roof form, together with a minor gable and a verandah that project towards the street frontage. These roof forms are clad in lapped galvanised corrugated iron. Narrow overhangs with exposed timber rafters are features of the eaves.
A feature of the design is the projecting gable roof. It has a pair of timber framed double hung windows with a decorative timber mullion between. There is also a window hood above. The gable end is also infilled with panelling and battening.
Other early timber framed double hung windows are situated at the front (under the verandah) and sides. There is also an early timber framed doorway with sidelight and transom at the front (under the verandah).
The verandah is supported by introduced timber columns and inappropriately decorated with iron lace brackets.
An early feature of the design is the ridge decoration about the roofline.
