GIPPSLAND CONSOLS MINE & MACHINERY SITES - History
Heritage Inventory History of Site: Towards the end of 1865 the Concord Company spent 10 000 pounds bringing a 40 horsepower steam engine and a 10 head battery and laying out a tramway from their workings to the machinery site. They were unable to make the mine pay, and the mine and plant were eventually taken over by Gippsland Consols Company who moved the battery further down the creek. Between 1872 and 1880, when they ceased operation, they managed to extract some 2 500 ounces of gold from almost 6000 tons of stone, making them the most successful mine on Edwards HillHeritage Inventory Description
