HS(A)-6 REDBANK PORT - History
The port is also north of the boundaries of the subdivision of Boorgunyah: a 'Township surveyed and proclaimed in 1859 although the township never develop' (http://homepages.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~surreal/AVNE/Towns/towns-wodonga.html#boorgunyah)
A search of the Parish and geological plans and general historical texts regarding Wodonga has not revealed further information regarding the history of this site.Heritage Inventory Description
HS(A)-6 REDBANK PORT - Heritage Inventory Description
Surface scatters of hand-made bricks, ceramics and bottle glass occurring over an area approx 500 E-W and 200 m south of the south bank of the Murray. Artefact scatters and two introduced trees are enclosed by a shallow ditch - probable drain. Site is interpreted as the Redbank Port site from which the Redbank branch railway line was constructed in 1872.
Heritage Inventory Significance: Moderate - significant as site of the failed Redbank steamer port and temporary township on banks of the Murray c.1872-3 which was associated with the construction of the NE railway.
