MARKHAM REEF WORKINGS - History
Heritage Inventory History of Site:
The Markham Reef, at the head of Back Creek, appears to have first been worked in 1867. The following year, a battery was erected on the reef. In 1880, the battery (which had been 'unused for some time') was purchased by Wilberforce & Sons and moved to Clear Creek. No further details have been found of the workings on Markham Reef.Heritage Inventory Description
