Statement of Significance
'Lexel Lea', 133 Wedderburn Road, St. Arnaud East, has significance as an intact example of the late Federation homestead style. Possibly built in the early 20th century, the house is a legacy of farming developments of that era, and it appears to be in good condition.
'Lexel Lea', 133 Wedderburn Road, is architecturally significant at a LOCAL level. It demonstrates original design qualities of a late Federation homestead style. These qualities include the broad gambrel roof form with its encircling broken back verandah, together with the minor gable that projects above the main entrance. Other intact or appropriate qualities include the single storey height, face brick wall construction, lapped galvanised corrugated iron roof cladding, three early face brick chimneys (two with rendered tops, and one with two terra cotta pots), timber verandah columns with curved timber brackets, elongated face brick verandah piers with projecting concrete cappings, timber framed double hung windows, timber framed double doorway with transom windows, and the gable infill (timber strapping and the timber ventilator).
'Lexel Lea', 133 Wedderburn Road, is historically significant at a LOCAL level. It is associated with farming developments in the St. Arnaud East area in the early 20th century.

'Lexel Lea', 133 Wedderburn Road, St. Arnaud East, has a rural setting with post and rail boundary fencing and garden beds, shrubs and trees immediately surrounding the house. There is also a row of eucalypts nearby, and a galvanised corrugated iron water tank and stand at the rear.
The single storey, face brick, early 20th century late Federation homestead styled house is characterised by a broad gambrel roof form having an encircling broken back verandah, together with a minor gable that projects above the main entrance. These roof forms are clad in lapped galvanised corrugated iron. Three early face brick chimneys adorn the roofline. Two chimneys have early rendered tops, with one chimney also having two terra cotta pots.
An early feature of the design is the encircling verandah. It is supported by early timber columns with curved timber brackets, which in turn are supported by elongated face brick piers having projecting concrete cappings.
Other early features include the timber framed double hung windows, timber framed double doorway with transom windows, and the gable infill (timber strapping and the timber ventilator).
