Statement of Significance
Shipped from England by the Rev. John Ham, the first regular minister of Collins Street Baptist Church and erected c.1850. The Rev. Ham & his brother, Jabez later founded the 'Australian Illustrated Magazine' which was successful until the staff deserted for the goldfields. Mr. Ham sold the sailship house in 1867 and after passing through the hands of several owners was bought by Mr. S.T. Marchant, pioneering Melbourne optician. The house continued to be occupied by his 2 daughters until being purchased for demolition and development of the site by Freemasons Hospital.
Demolished after 1960.
