HO184 - Wilkinson house, 20 Clyde Street, Diamond Creek - Physical Description 1
Description
The house is located on a hillside overlooking the Diamond Creek town, on the Cowin Street corner with Clyde Street and fronting Clyde Street. The residence is set back from Cowin Street and Clyde Street so occupies the north east corner of the site. It is part of a significant building group of early weatherboard buildings in the township, including the Diamond Creek School, which is located opposite the house on Clyde Street.
This is a California Bungalow style weatherboard and rough cast stucco house with return timber framed verandah and distinctive bay windows to the Clyde Street and Cowin Street corner and to the front project wing facing Clyde Street. The exterior cladding is typical of the style with weatherboards to the lower half and rough cast stucco to the upper sections. The verandah detail is simple, with square-section posts and timber decorative brackets. The return verandah responds to the two street frontages and corner siting, as does the corner bay window providing views over Diamond Creek. The roof consists of a large gable and a smaller gable to the projecting front wing. The gable ends facing Clyde Street have part shingles to the tops.
A large gabled garage/carport has been added on the south facing Clyde Street and there is a later addition to the rear.
