Beauview Estate - Physical Description 1
The Beauview Estate is bisected by Beauview Parade which zig-zags in an east-west direction, terminating in a court at the western end and Burton Crescent at the eastern end. Ravenswood Avenue and Carmichael Street are the main north-south streets, and the estate is bounded to the south by Lower Heidelberg Road.
Unlike the Beaumont Estate, which was mostly developed within a five year period, the Beauview Estate comprises buildings of various periods. The estate therefore does not possess the predominant inter-War character of Beaumont. The Italianate style mansion Ravenswood dominates the west end of Beauview Parade.
The houses are asymmetrically planned, many in the Neo-Tudor or English Domestic Revival styles, although some houses are influenced by the Moderne style. Fence designs are diverse throughout the estate, many of them post-dating the construction of the house.
The neo-Tudor style houses are of clinker brick construction and have hipped or gabled tiled roofs.
The following buildings from the Beauview Estate have individual datasheets in Banyule Heritage Places Study - Building Citations Vol 2, Parts 1 & 2 (1997):
. Beauview Shopping Centre, 253-263 Lower Heidelberg Road (1939)
. Ravenswood, 9 Beauview Parade (1890-91)
