Dumbarton, 1425 Sturt Street, Ballarat - Physical Description 1
The red brick and plaster house id on interest for the polygonal bay come tower on the east and for the ionic coulms and flat-roofed vernadah on the Sturt street elevation. The building is basically a turn of the century Queen Ann settle house of intersecting hips and gables. The tower has narrow windows at ground floor level and is marked by broad plaster bands and is capped my a slimmer octagonal tower with a slim round arch headed openings in each side 'surmounted by a copper cupola rising to a finial. The verandah of' classic details sits rather awkwardly across the gable end of the building. The ionic columns support a plain architrave and the frieze is plain, save for rosettes above the columns. These are surmounted by a cornice.
