DEVINE HOUSE RUIN - History
House site dates from 1870 and is associated with the Devine farming family. John and Margaret Devine purchased the land during the mid to late 19th century. They were the parents of Hugh Devine, aleading Australian surgeon.DEVINE HOUSE RUIN - Interpretation of Site
Farmhouse with vegetable/ ornamental garden surrounded by drystone walls to keep stock out. Site represents pastoral activities and notions of domesticity.
DEVINE HOUSE RUIN - Archaeological Significance
Devine house ruin is of high archaeological significance and maintains a high level of integrity and a medium level of intactness. Susequent farm activities appear to have had little impact on the site, which remains relatively undisturbed. The site has high potential to provide further infromation about 19th century farming practices and associated domestic life.
DEVINE HOUSE RUIN - Historical Significance
The place is of local historical significance for its association with local farmers John and Margaret Devine and their son Hugh Devine, who became a prominant Australian surgeon. The site is of historical importance as it represents the development of farming interests in the area during the mid to late 1800s.

DEVINE HOUSE RUIN - Heritage Inventory Description
Site comprises house ruin; evidence of garden beds to south of site; mature pine planting; well at west side of house (now contains dead sheep); artefact scatter including glass, ceramic and metal fragments; and, drystone walls. Site is located on relatively flat ground in the middle of a paddock.
