Veterans Description for Public
RAAF Laverton Aerial Farm Site - Veterans Description for Public
The RAAF Laverton Aerial Farm Site was located at 240 Sayers Road, Point Cook. In 1953, the Commonwealth of Australia purchased the study area for the purposes of constructing an aerial farm comprising numerous radio masts, for the Laverton Air force Base. The RAAF constructed a number of radio rooms, masts and towers for use as a radio station. The configuration of structures and buildings date from 1957-58. Some features may have dated from the Second World War.
During the mid 1990s, the radio station was abandoned and many parts of the installation (such as the sheds and rooms) had been removed. The site did consist of aerials, towers, water tank and a powerline. All of these have been removed. Piles of concrete slab portions can be found, towards Dunnings Road fence. Flat areas are still visible were buildings may have been.

Although such communications installations may be a common feature associated within and near WWII Airforce bases, they are yet to be recorded as heritage sites and documented in detail.
