WITNISH'S SAWMILL - History
WILLIAM WITNISH ESTABLISHED THE MILL ON THE WERRIBEE RIVER IN 1877. HE DIED IN 1879 AND THE BUSINESS WAS RUN BY THE TRUSTEES TURPIE AND COSTIN UNTIL 1885. THEREAFTER YOUNG WILLIAM AND RICHARD WITNISH OPERATED THE MILL UNTIL THE AREA WAS CUT OUT IN 1889.WITNISH'S SAWMILL - Interpretation of Site
The mill is on a single level with a trench for a single circular breaking-down saw and a separate trench for the circular rip-saw. At the northern end of the mill is the stack-end of the boiler setting.
