CLARK'S TRAMWAY - History
ANDREW CLARK INSTALLED A SAWMILL JUST NORTH OF LEONARDS HILL IN 1860. A TAMWAY WAS CONSTRUCTED SOUTH-EAST AND THEN EAST FROM THE MILL. CLARK DIED IN 1870 AND THE MILL WAS PURCHASED BY LA GERCHE AND DODD WHO RENAMED IT WOMBAT SAWMILL. LA GERCHE AND DODD MET FINANCIAL DIFFICULTIES IN 1875 AND THE UNION BANK OF AUSTRALIA ASSUMED OWNERSHIP OF THE MILL. THEY SOLDS IT TO THE TELEGRAPH SAWMILL COMPANY WHICH CONTINUED TO WORK IT UNTIL 1880.CLARK'S TRAMWAY - Interpretation of Site
THE TRAMWAY INCLUDES TWO CUTTINGS AND A FORMATION WHICH INDICATES THAT ITS GAUGE WAS PROBABLY 5'3" AND LAID USING THE PRINCIPAL AND STRINGER METHOD.
