The Merrett Rifle Range Pavilion was located at 81-85 Kororoit Creek Road, Williamstown. The range at Williamstown was established in the colonial period and served as an important venue for metropolitan shooters. Rifle ranges were scattered all over Victoria wherever volunteers or militia gathered. Along with drilling, rifle shooting was an important facet of the part time soldier's life and there were many markmanship competitions between units.
