Sandy Creek Army Hut - Veterans Description for Public
The Sandy Creek army hut, opposite Glendon Lockharts Gap Road, is typical of the 'P' series huts; timber framed with corrugated iron walls and a corrugated asbestos roof. Hundreds of these huts were disposed of from army camps at Bonegilla and Bandiana (near Wodonga) in the wake of the Second World War, and during the 1960s and 1970s after the closure of the Bonegilla Migrant Reception Centre. It is presumed that the hut was moved to its current location during the latter half of the twentieth century. This building was moved here by Jim Cook during the 1960s, it was known as 'The Bach'.
