OUYEN MINING SANDS (OMS) - H2 - History
(AS PER PAT PEARSON - LOCAL INFORMANT IN HER 80S); THE HOUSE USED TO BELONG TO MRS PAT PEASON'S PARENTS-IN-LAW WHO CAME TO THE DISTRICT FROM BENDIGO SOMETIME BETWEEN 1911-1920. THEY BUILT THE HOUSE AND ASSOCIATED STRUCTURES. THE MUDBRICK HOUSE COMPRISED OF THREE BEDROOMS AND LOUNGE (TIN CHIMNEY). THE CORRUGATED IRON SHED WAS THE KITCHEN (LATER ADDITION) AND BESIDE IT WAS THE GARAGE/WORKSHOP. THERE USED TO BE A WALTHROUGH VERANDAH FROM THE HOUSE TO THE KITCHEN/BATHROOM. PAT'S FATHER-IN-LAW BUILT THE HOUSE MAKING THE MUDBRICKS HIMSELF. PAT AND HER HUSBAND LIVED IN THE HOUSE BUT ABANDONED IT IN THE 1960S.

OUYEN MINING SANDS (OMS) - H2 - Heritage Inventory Description
Ruin - mudbrick house; redgum underground cellar; netting fence; tin kitchen (now storage shed); workshop arc; exotic plants; assorted domestic/farm rubbish - tins, kettles, bottles etc; cactus; underground cellar - milled redgum - measures 4m/4.5m; remains of mudbrick house with tin chimney, iron roofing, wooden rafters, doors within foundations, and nearby corrugated tin kitchen/bathroom on stumps, currently used as storage (measures approx 5mx10m); two-room workshop/garage. Constructed of wire mesh wood poles mudbrick mixture; cement floors; discontinuous mesh fence; electricity or telegraph poles.
